Swimming Pools

Pool pads should be thought of like concrete. Where above ground pools are NOT frost protected via a 4 foot wall, it is imperative that the pad is prepared correctly. After an appropriate location for your pool is selected, excavation begins at the lowest point with the sod removed. It is carved level, typically into a pad 3 feet larger in diameter than your pool. This allows your installer room to work and to set his stones for wall support. Since we cannot see below the surface of the ground until excavation begins, pool pads are hard to price. You MUST get to original soil or hard pan in order to ensure stability in your pool. Think of it like so, water weighs 10 Ilbs. per gallon. So if you are installing a 24` round pool with 52" sides, your pool will hold  13,594 gallons of water or 135 940 Ilbs of weight. All stumps, large rock, previously disturbed soils(fill) must be removed and replaced with good compaction gravel installed in lifts compacted to the proper elevation to also ensure stability and drainage from surface and ground water. Although excavating 2 or 3 feet into the ground and coming back up isn`t typical, it does however happen on occasion. One should be prepared for this possibility as installing a $10,000 pool only to have it come down in the spring would be a disappointment to say the least.
